Unique handmadery sells like hotcakes at Applied Art Fair

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the Echo of Centuries Festival, there’s a wealth of unique handmade items offered by around 80 craftsmen and women at an Applied Art Fair, where trade is in full swing. The Applied Art Fair is there to make sure that festival attendees with a passion for all things traditional get a taste of Uzbek craftsmanship and take home special souvenirs and a piece of Uzbek culture.
Gamecocks show amazing combat prowess at Asrlar Sadosi

Cockfighting is believed to be one of the oldest spectator sports that remains relevant to this day. And this sport has been part of the Asrlar Sadosi Festival since it was first held. Cockfighting is popular and spectacular, and is enjoyed by both local residents and many tourists. This year’s combatants are beautiful and specially selected breeds of gamecocks that brought together a multitude of onlookers.
Kurash national wrestling: display of amazing strength and skill

On May 4, the first day of the Echo of Centuries Festival, the guests had the opportunity to attend tournaments of kurash, a type of wrestling central to Uzbek tradition. The tournaments featured a number of Uzbek kurash wrestlers who have previously won prizes at international competitions. Among the contestants was the oldest Uzbek kurash fighter, who has participated in Asian Olympic Games several times.
Asrlar Sadosi Festival set to make yet another splash

Asrlar Sadosi (The Echo of Centuries) Festival of Traditional Culture, a collaborative effort between Fund Forum and the UNESCO Tashkent Office, is set to make yet another splash... this time in the Sarmishsai Gorge, a treasure trove of ancient petroglyphs and other landmarks. Like its previous editions, the two-day festival comes with a dizzying variety of events that will mirror Uzbekistan’s cultural and historical legacy.

This year Asrlar Sadosi (The Echo of Century) Festival of Traditional Culture has a strong scientific focus. Tashkent will host a roundtable on the role of culture in sustainable development, followed by a conference on architectural epigraphy and a book presentation in Bukhara. The folk part of the Festival will take place in the Sarmishsai Gorge (Navoi Region) and will include an applied art fair, traditional games, music and dance performances by folk groups representing various Uzbek regions, a National Cuisine Festival and an aroma-filled National Cuisine Festival. The fest will culminate in a gala concert, with international visitors in attendance.

Komen Uzbekistan Race for the Cure presented by Fund Forum, the Women’s Council and the National Breast Cancer Association of Uzbekistan (NBCAU) is outraged by the recent explosions that hit the Boston marathon and offer their deep condolences to the families and close ones of those who were injured.
School kids go on an exciting ride into history

Forty-five students from Tashkent’s general education schools № 144, 169 and 243, renovated by Mehr Nuri (Light of Mercy) Foundation, participated in the charity event ‘History of Motherland’ that took the group of children on an educational tour of Samarkand. The trip to the city packed with medieval architectural gems was an opportunity for the children to experience a piece of history that the city is steeped in.
Yale University hosts Fund Forum presentation

Yale University, one of the oldest higher education institutions in the USA, hosted a presentation of Uzbek culture and arts and Fund Forums international activities and major projects. The professors and students attending the event learned about the Asrlar Sadosi Festival of Traditional Culture, Style.Uz Art Week and other projects overseen by Fund Forum as well as about the Center for Political Studies.
iLuminate glow-light dancers put up stunning show in Tashkent

American dance group iLuminate blew the audience away at an electrifying show they staged on April 14 at Turkiston Palace in Tashkent as part of their first-ever tour of Central Asia. The viewers were treated to a stunning program that featured extraordinary lighting effects choreographed with phenomenal dance moves. Equally exciting was the performance by members of Zlotnikov Dance Center.
Race for the Cure held in Karshi and Samarkand

On April 10 and 12, Karshi city and Samarkand city hosted Races for the Cure and fundraising football matches played by Uzbek celebrities and Kelajak Ovozi YIC members. The pink-ribbon events seeking to support women with breast cancer drew a large number of people determined to say no to breast cancer and contribute to the charitable cause.
